    Class  6S

    Welcome to Class 6S

Class teacher – Miss H. Shenton

    P.E.

    • Tuesday
    • Friday

Children need to leave their P.E. kit at school. It can be taken home to be washed whenever they wish. For outdoor games, children will need pumps or trainers and jogging trousers for the winter. Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery please.

    Spellings

Spellings are given out on Monday and need to be learned for a test on the following Friday. Please help your child to learn their spellings at home – remember: Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check.

    Homework

Homework is given out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monday's spelling sheet has to be returned on Wednesday, Wednesday's homework is to be returned on Friday and Friday's homework is to be returned the following Monday.

Reading practice is a really important part of Year 6 homework and should be at least twenty minutes per evening. Once the children have read their books they will complete a follow up quiz in school on the computers before they can change their books.

It is really helpful if parents check that the homework has been done.

    SATs tests

In 2022 these take place in the week beginning May 9th. The children are tested in Maths and English. These tests are marked by external markers and the results are usually given to school sometime in July. The results are included in the end of year reports.

For all other areas of the curriculum teacher assessment takes place throughout the year.

Please do not book any holidays during term time.

    Visits

The children have the chance to attend a residential in the summer term at Ghyll Head Outdoor Pursuits Centre. There will be other curriculum trips throughout the year.

    Friday assembly

Children who have received certificates for out of school activities such as swimming or sporting activities can bring their certificates to show in good work assembly on Friday mornings. A star of the week certificate is awarded each week for a child who has excelled in some area.

Parents will be informed each half term of the different topics we shall be covering in Year 6.
