Class 5S

Class teacher – Mrs. A. Steele

Tuesday afternoon

Friday morning

Children need to leave their P.E. kit (black shorts, white t shirt) at school; we will send it home to be washed every half term. Children will need pumps or trainers and jogging trousers for the winter. Long hair must be tied back and no jewellery please.

Spellings are given out on Friday and need to be learned for the test the following Thursday. The worksheet needs to be returned, completed on Thursday. Please help your child to learn their spellings at home – remember Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check. If your child is absent when they are given out, please collect a copy from the Class Teacher or TA.

Homework is always a consolidation of the week's work and is given out every Friday. Class 5S will always have one piece of Maths and one piece of English in addition to the weekly spelling work. This must be completed by the following Thursday.

During the year we will make regular visits to Levenshulme Library, where the children will be able to choose books to bring back to school. We will also visit other places in the local area.

 Reading books

Your child needs to bring their book bag to school every day.

Accelerated Reading takes place every day and the children are free to take a quiz each morning. Each week your child will read as part of a group and as an individual. Children need to try and do as much reading as possible at home and this needs to be written down in their reading record every day.

Friday Assembly

Children who have received certificates for out of school activities such as swimming or sporting activities can bring their certificates to show in good work assembly on Friday mornings. During the year there will be an opportunity for parents to come and watch their child in the class assembly. The dates for these will be given nearer the time.

Please send a labelled water bottle to school with your child.

We recommend that children have a healthy snack at morning break. Fruit, bread sticks or rice cakes are a great idea - no sweets or crisps. Thank you!
